Candidates should be able to teach undergraduate philosophy courses at all levels, including Introduction to Philosophy. AOS is Global Philosophy (where by “Global Philosophy” is meant philosophy coming from outside of the “canonical” Western traditions, including, but not limited to African/Africana Philosophy, East Asian and South Asian Philosophy, Indigenous/First People’s Philosophy, Islamic Philosophy, and Latin American Philosophy). The AOC should include one or more of the following: environmental ethics, contemporary ethical theory, philosophy of law, philosophy of race, philosophy of science, and empirical moral psychology. The Department already has good coverage in metaphysics & epistemology, aesthetics, philosophy of mind, contemporary Continental philosophy, ancient Greek philosophy, modern philosophy, social and political philosophy, and logic. Candidates will teach our First Year Seminar course regularly, and candidates will have opportunities to teach courses in our Honors Program. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates is required.
