Job Summary:

This position is responsible for engineering, designing, expanding, integrating, securing, deploying, managing, monitoring and maintaining the college’s network infrastructure while enforcing network security policies. It ensures the seamless and continuous operation of the underlying network and security infrastructure in order to provide maximum performance and availability for students, faculty, staff, vendors, and affiliates. Additionally, this position will monitor, track and shape all traffic inbound and outbound on the college’s network, support network services such as DHCP, conduct vulnerability scans, and test security features of various systems. This position will also research, recommend, and implement new technologies to keep the Institution operating on the latest technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for configuring, monitoring, and maintaining all network and security related equipment, appliances, and servers. This includes firewall administration, access control list creation and maintenance, advanced knowledge of threats and exploitation techniques, as well as working with intrusion detection/prevention systems. The engineer uses advanced techniques to perform high level routing both internally and externally, knowledgeable in both IPv4 and IPv6, and network configurations to insure high-availability and having proper redundancies in place in order to maximize uptime and bandwidth. This position also works on SAN optimization for storage and high availability of shares throughout the network.
  • Investigate network and security exposures and implement fixes to maintain a secure and reliable network, this includes:
  • Responsible for network authentication, authorization, and accounting
  • Troubleshoot and manage the campus’ VPN environment, access control lists and intrusion detection policies
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal rules and regulations to which Marist must adhere by staying abreast of digital security and privacy laws
  • Design, implement, and enforce network security policies and best-practice security strategies
  • Quickly and efficiently respond to and enforce legal notifications such as copyright infringement or other security related incidences
  • Assist campus security with remote surveillance and digital forensics
  • Research, document and present emerging networking and security technologies in order to successfully implement them in the network. The engineer is responsible for continued education on these items and how they can be applied to the campus infrastructure for better support of the user population and to add functionality, speed and high availability.
  • Responsible for engineering network expansions and additions including new building design and renovations. This includes carefully planning and executing new equipment
  • specifications and integration, as well as use of best practice for new compliance models and techniques. Advanced knowledge of various client technologies is required in order to properly deploy networks that support the variety of clients we support. The engineer aids in building wired and wireless systems, DAS and their complete deployment in new areas or renovated buildings and the underlying fiber and routing infrastructure needed to properly create these networks. Monitor the Network for malicious traffic or anomalies and take action as needed.
  • Response to outages and potential threats as well as their remediation and high level packet inspection skills are used, as well as intimate knowledge of hacking and exploitation techniques criminals and hackers may use to attempt to compromise the network. The engineer also maintains the security standards and system configurations in order to facilitate this.
  • Responsible for creating standards based templates that follow best-practices for secure, scalable, and available network infrastructure. This includes creating systems that can quickly deploy virtual machines and various networking appliances and their configurations to save time and be able to create redundant systems as needed. This also aids in being able to replace equipment and scale very quickly as well.
  • Participate in “on-call” duties within rotating schedule, and also act as a key contributor to our disaster recovery team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • College pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
